Illegal Diversion of Educational Assets

It doesn’t often reach the headlines, but the extent of political bias in education has reached near-catastrophic levels. Educators at university, high school, and lower levels, partially in response to the Parkland disaster, have abandoned any pretense at objectivity and openly abused their positions of trust to advance left-wing goals.

Not enough attention has been paid to acts such as that of the Baltimore public school system, which complained that it didn’t have enough funds to heat classrooms but spent $100,000 to rent buses to transport students to Washington for an anti-gun demonstration.

Some of the traits that have become more publicly noticeable are reminiscent of China’s cultural revolution. Bradford Richardson, for example, reports that Harvard has established  an effort to rid the classroom of so-called “offensive” remarks and has set up a mechanism to anonymously do so.

In North Carolina, notes the Washington Times,an eight year old student was given a handout from his school about “white privilege.” In a similar vein, notes Campus Reform,  Students at the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs can earn up to 3 academic credits through a course that requires them to attend the annual White Privilege Conference. The credits can be applied toward the school’s Graduate Certificate in Diversity, Social Justice, and Inclusion, along with courses such as “Unmasking Whiteness” and “Social Health Justice.”

PJ Media reports that a teacher was placed on leave for merely asking whether students seeking to protest abortion would be given the same rights as those demonstrating against the Second Amendment. Columnist Tom Knighton reported that an educator posed the question:  if it was appropriate for the school to have been providing support for a politically motivated protest, [in this case, anti-2nd Amendment] would such support would be there for other causes. The teacher involved, Julianne Benzel, said “I just kind of used the example … [if] a group of students nationwide, or even locally, decided ‘I want to walk out of school for 17 minutes’ and go in the quad area and protest abortion, would that be allowed by our administration… When a school makes it clear that it is willing to support some political speech but not all, students are learning that some opinions can be silenced in this country. They call it progressive, but that’s regression.”

The College Fix found that an “anti-oppression guide” at  Simmons College claims that saying “God bless you” after some sneezes is considered as a microaggrerssion, because it could offend Muslims.

As the New York Analysis of Policy and Government previously reported, Walter Williams provided  a disturbing report from the University of Hawaii:

Bush ordered the destruction of the twin towers.’ … Then there’s Georgetown law professor Louis Michael Seidman, who explained our national problems by saying, ‘But almost no one blames the culprit: our insistence on obedience to the Constitution, with all its archaic, idiosyncratic and downright evil provisions.’”

The Daily Wire reports that  Karl Marx’s ‘Communist Manifesto’ has been found to be the most taught text by economists on college campuses…“’The Communist Manifesto’ was most frequently taught by economists, receiving a total count of 3189 and a ‘teaching score’ of 99.7. The overall data from all professors revealed that only ‘The Elements of Style,’ a common writing guide by William Strunk and ‘The Republic’ by Plato were more assigned than the Karl Marx classic. And if if that’s not frightening enough, per Market Watch, the Bible did not show up in the data at all but Adolf Hitler’s ‘Mein Kampf’ received ‘a count of 697 and a score of 75.7’ and Vladimir Lenin’s ‘What Is To Be Done’ received a count of 361 and a teaching score of 45.9.”

When U.S. history is taught, even on the lower school level, it is frequently from an extreme anti-American bias. The Federalist reported that in 2014, when award-winning history professor Larry Krieger reviewed Common Core’s AP American history curriculum, he was appalled.  “Krieger… conducted a meticulous dissection of the anti-American themes and anti-knowledge gaps in the extensive new curriculum framework. These include emphasizing exploitation, racial conflict, and economic determinism, and omitting the Pilgrims, all Revolutionary War battles, Alexis de Tocqueville, Uncle Tom’s Cabin, and much more. Their analysis and Wood’s also make it quite clear that the new curriculum is nowhere near objective, or even even-handed, philosophically, and is, moreover, organizationally incoherent.”

Will Grant, reporting for Times Higher Education explains that “Growing proportions of the academic workforce are employed in ever more precarious fashion; PhD graduates are produced at volumes scarcely related to academic jobs; … Among our students, we can see a growing trend of academic entitlement, …growing political demands over the shape of the curriculum and how the university should relate to them. Accusations of liberal bias among faculty are nothing new. Since before God and Man at Yale – William F. Buckley’s 1951 attack on his teachers at Yale – academics have been accused of seeking to indoctrinate students into liberal views. Yet in recent years, [ideological battles]…have taken on a new character…The tone of campus conversations has changed. Partisan divisions we see elsewhere in society seem to have made their way into the classroom…students …are …more likely to disengage from the classroom experience, or to be disingenuous and parrot the instructors’ beliefs back to them. Neither of these behaviors is, of course, conducive to either quality classroom discussion or actual learning… these trends are worsened by the system that we have helped to create…Politics may currently be an unwelcome and potentially disruptive visitor to the classroom, but it doesn’t need to be that way….”

Allowing discussions and even protests are part of the educational process. But mandating that only one side of the ideological divide has that privilege is an affront to the American concept of free speech, and represents, in essence, a theft of taxpayer dollars or parental tuition funds for purposes unrelated to education.

Left Wing Bias Prevalent in Education

If an invading force sought to obscure America’s history, falsely indoctrinate its youth that their nation was an evil entity, and ignore the enormous, indeed unmatched, good that has been achieved by the United States, there is little doubt that the populace would rise up.

But much of that is being done within America’s schools, and the silence from many in politics and the media is deafening.

The American Council of Trustees and Alumni (ACTA), an independent, non-profit organization committed to academic freedom, excellence, and accountability at America’s colleges and universities, found that “Less than one-third of the colleges and universities in the United States annually ranked as the country’s best schools require students pursuing a degree in history to take a single course in American history… only 23 undergraduate history programs at the U.S. News & World Report’s top 25 national universities, top 25 public institutions, and top 25 liberal arts colleges require a single U.S. history class. Many of the same institutions that do not require history majors to take a course on United States history do specify that they must complete coursework on areas outside the United States… Of the 23 schools that do list a U.S. history requirement, 11 permit courses like ‘Hip-Hop, Politics, and Youth Culture in America’ (University of Connecticut) or “Mad Men and Mad Women” (Middlebury College) to fulfill that requirement.  ‘Historical illiteracy is the inevitable consequence of lax college requirements, and that ignorance leads to civic disempowerment,’ observed Michael Poliakoff, ACTA’s president-elect. A democratic republic cannot thrive without well-informed citizens and leaders.’”

CNS  reports that “An Advanced Placement world geography teacher at Lumberton High School in Texas encouraged students to dress in Islamic clothing and instructed them to refer to the 9/11 hijackers not as terrorists but as ‘freedom fighters.’ They were also told to stop referring to the Holocaust as genocide. John Valastro, the superintendent of the Lumberton Independent School District, told Fox News that the teacher did absolutely nothing wrong. In McAllen, Texas, teachers tried to force a teenager to sing the Mexican national anthem and recite Mexico’s pledge of allegiance. The teen refused, saying it was against her beliefs as an American. She was thrown out of the class and given a failing grade for that day’s assignment. Her father has filed a lawsuit on behalf of his daughter against the McAllen Independent School District.”

Blatant partisanship is also part of leftist curriculum. Todd Starnes provides this example:  A tenth grade teacher at Saratoga Springs High School led a discussion on the rise of fascism during World War Two by referencing President Trump. The Washington Free Beacon  disclosed that, in February, “The chief executive of Chicago Public Schools wrote a letter Monday that school officials sent home with every student in the system attacking Illinois Republican Gov. Bruce Rauner and President Donald Trump. All 381,000 students were sent home with the letter.”

When the New York Analysis of Policy and Government spoke with several university professors, many expressed reluctance to speak out for fear of their careers.  They noted that those who disagreed with the prevailing leftist perspective had little or no chance of even getting hired in the first place; those who had already been hired by hiding their views, fear for tenure or other career aspects.  Those interviewed consistently condemned the biased texts used for college courses.

FASHIONABLE FACISM: HOW PROGRESSIVE POLITICS MAKES FASCISM TRENDY

No one should be surprised at the latest acts of mob tyranny and irrationality on America’s campuses, or the growing trend towards left-wing fascism throughout the Progressive movement.

For several decades, the concepts of American constitutional government have been mocked and degraded at U.S. universities. Widely used texts such as Howard Zinn’s “A People’s History of America” have berated the entire American experience. Generations of college students have been falsely taught that their nation is evil. The Judeo-Christian ethic, which introduced civilization to the belief that each individual has value, is virtually banned from public schools.

Moderate and conservative-minded professors are not hired. Non-left wing students are harassed. University administrators prevent the expression of free speech by limiting contrary views to tiny so-called “free speech zones,” then limit even that outlet by alleging that even there, non-leftists views are punishable because they are “threatening” to progressive/fascist minded students. Not willing to tolerate objections to their socialist teachings, college progressive/fascists have invented the concept of “micro” aggressions to deter discussion about their totalitarian views.

Constitutional guarantees of free speech and free elections are, indeed, an impediment to the implementation of a “progressive” left wing agenda that rejects individual rights in favor of socialist policies that are disliked by a more traditionally-minded public that resents having the will of self-proclaimed academic “intellectuals” imposed upon it.

Campus Reform reports that “The University of Missouri Police Department sent an email to students Tuesday morning asking them to report ‘hateful and/or hurtful speech’ so that they may pursue disciplinary action. The email…instructs recipients to ‘call the police immediately’…if they witness such incidents, and to collect as much information as possible in order to help police identify the perpetrator(s).” So much for free speech!

The Federalist describes the literal shredding of the Constitution at Vassar: “A university administrator literally shredded a copy of the Constitution after an undercover activist posing as a student said that it was ‘triggering.’ ‘I realized the Constitution is kind of a trigger for me,’ the activist posting as a student told Vassar’s deputy equal opportunity czar. ‘Overall I just see it as a really oppressive document… Honestly can we just like destroy, is there like a shredder or something? Like I think it might be really therapeutic.’ [The Administrator] responded to the request by eagerly seeking out a shredder and feeding the Constitution through the metal tines herself while the traumatized co-ed stood by watching.”

The progressive/fascist movement that now dominates college campuses is radically different from the liberal activism of the past, symbolized by the “free speech” movement of the 1960’s at Berkley.

Some traditional journalistic liberal bastions are, belatedly and far too timidly, beginning to notice. New York Magazine , for instance, writes that “At the protest on Missouri’s campus… protesters surrounded and harassed Tim Tai, a photographer with the student newspaper, chanting, ‘Hey, hey, ho, ho, journalists have got to go.’ … Melissa Click, a professor of mass media working with the protest movement, calls out, ‘Help me get this reporter out of here. I need some muscle over here.’ It is possible — and, for many sympathizers on the left, convenient — to dismiss these sorts of incidents … Political correctness is a system of thought that denies the legitimacy of political pluralism on issues of race and gender… the academy is one of the few bastions of American life where the p.c. left can muster the strength to impose its political hegemony upon others. The phenomenon also exists in other nonacademic left-wing communities, many of them virtual ones centered on social media, and its defenders include professional left-wing intellectuals.”

The resentment of a free press was observable at “Occupy” demonstrations, when reporters were harassed and threatened by participants. It is evident in the demands by leftists that those who disagree with their theories on global warming be imprisoned.

The progressive/fascist movement is, dangerously, not restricted to college campuses. It is frightening to consider its assaults on the Bill of Rights.  Last year, Senator Schumer introduced legislation that would restrict use of the First Amendment in regards to paid political speech.

There are constant calls to eliminate the Second Amendment. The Ninth and Tenth Amendments, which guarantee that the enumeration of certain rights in the Constitution doesn’t limit other freedoms, and that specifically says that rights not specifically granted to the federal government are reserved to the people and the states, are totally ignored by progressive/fascists who see an ever larger and more powerful federal government as the answer to every problem the nation faces.

After ignoring the First, Second, Ninth and Tenth Amendments, not much is left of the Bill of Rights.

Throughout President Obama’s tenure in office, Administration supporters and the liberal media have gone to great pains to ignore or excuse away stunning acts of arrogance which, if done by moderates or conservatives would have resulted in anguished complaints of “imperial presidency” and “tyranny.”  Obama’s shocking comments that he “would not wait for Congress,” that he has “A pen and a phone” which he will use in lieu of Congressional action, were not just rhetoric. They defined his, and the left’s, growing disdain for individual freedom and the democratic process.

The President, with the approval of the progressive/fascists, has used executive orders in an unlawful manner.  He has labelled international treaties as “agreements” in order to avoid the rightful role of the Senate in approving them. He has misappropriated federal agencies, especially the IRS, to attack and silence political opponents. His Justice Department has been warped into a political hatchet. He has used the Environmental Protection Agency to usurp property rights. He has demoted military advisors who provide him with honest and respectful advice that he simply refuses to listen to, in much the same manner that he is absent from national security briefings.

Keep in mind that the full name of Hitler’s Nazi organization was the “National Socialist” party.
